When I moved through the Dutch housing market — both professionally and personally — I noticed something odd.
Expats who want to renovate or upgrade their bathrooms often don’t know where to begin. Most websites are only in Dutch, showrooms only cater for Dutch clients and they expect you to already understand how the process in The Netherlands works.
And few businesses are prepared to really listen to someone whose habits, taste, or culture might be a little different from the local norm.
That’s when the idea clicked: this process needs to be reimagined for people who think — and live — a little differently.
My journey in bathroom design started in the late ’90s at a high-end bathroom studio in Leiden. That’s where I fell in love with the elegance of great materials, strong design brands, and the creativity of spatial design.
Since then, I’ve worked in graphic design, marketing and, as an Industrial Product Engineer, contributing to bespoke interior projects and even designing products myself.
But throughout all those years, one thing stayed with me: I wanted to create spaces where form and function come together in a way that feels personal, human — and, above all, like home.
The Bathroom Designer is a one-person studio — it’s me, Romano, from first sketch to final handover. I listen carefully, sketch freely, and build technically. Whether you’re from Tokyo, São Paulo or Kraków, I help translate your routines, rituals and aesthetic into a bathroom that fits your new life, without erasing where you came from.
No cookie-cutter packages. No showroom clichés. Just thoughtful design, premium materials, and a process tailored to you.
I believe every bathroom should tell a story — not mine, but yours.
My mission is simple: to help expats and design lovers feel at home, starting in the most intimate room of the house.

Feel free to bring along anything that helps us understand your vision — floorplans, 3D interior sketches, moodboards, or even your favorite Pinterest links. If you already have these, they’ll give us a great starting point to design a bathroom that truly reflects your style and needs.
